An Indicator is an ouput element on the Front Panel of a VI that allows users to see visual representations of the data or output. When an indicator is connected to a terminal of the Connector Pane, it serves as an output terminal to pass data out of a SubVI back to the calling VI. An indicator can also be changed into a control via the right-click menu option Change to Control. Indicators on a front panel are always stored as part of the owning VI. Individual indicators can be stored in a control file on disk for later re-use. Control files are created and changed in the control editor.

Indicators include: Graphs, LEDs, Numbers, Strings etc. Indicators to place on a front panel are accessed through the Controls Palette or through Quick Drop.
