Free label
A free label is a text block on the Front Panel or Block Diagram. It is called free because it does not belong to any specific object as opposed to a regular label.
Attach to object
Free labels can be attached to objects on the Block Diagram. This is indicated by an arrow that originates from the label to the attached object. The link is maintained even when the free label - or the object it is attached to - are moved. Whether or not a free label is attached to an object does not affect the object itself.
Bookmarks
Free labels can be used as bookmarks for the Bookmark Manager.
Hyperlinks
When free labels contain text that LabVIEW interprets as a hyperlink, the link will be clickable and render in blue. Clicking the link opens it in the default web browser. On the front panel, you can disable automatic conversion of text to links by right-clicking on the label and unchecking Enable Hyperlinks.
LabVIEW identifies hyperlinks by the presence of "://" in the text.
To make a hyperlink where the display text is distinct from the URL, put the display text in angle brackets after the URL. For example: https://labviewwiki.org/<LabVIEW WIKI>
