Sometimes it's necessary to rename a page in LabVIEW Wiki. Maybe the page title has a spelling error; maybe it doesn't conform to the article naming conventions; maybe it was accidentally created in the wrong namespace. In any case, this is how you rename a page. In order to rename, you actually perform a move operation.

You should only move pages if the title of a page doesn't comply with the [[LabVIEW Wiki:Manual of Style#Page naming conventions|page naming conventions]]. For example:
*In the form provided, give the title of the new page, without the square brackets ("[[]]").
*In the "Reason" textbox field PLEASE add a note explaining why the page was moved.
*Hit the '''Move page''' button.

The old name of the page will be kept as a redirect page. Any links to the old name will automatically be "redirected" to the new name. However, it's best to go update existing pages that link to the old name, and replace the links with the new name.
* Spelling error in the title
* Wrong capitalization (see [[LabVIEW Wiki:Manual of Style]])
* Wrong article namespace
* Unnecessary use of abbreviations
* ...

*Go to the new page, and click the '''What links here''' button. This will show you all the other articles on LabVIEW Wiki that link to this page. The ''old'' name of the page will be shown as a "redirect page", and links to the old name of the page will be shown underneath it.
Do not move pages to satify your own conventions. LabVIEW Wiki is a collaborative platform, so conventions should be discussed before being enforced without consent by the community.
*Go to all the pages that link to the old name, and update the links so they point to the new name.

After moving a page, make sure to update any existing links in the wiki to the new page:

Who can move pages?

On LabVIEW Wiki, anyone with a user account can move pages. If you don't have a user account, create one now. If you have a user account, login to start moving pages.

When to move pages?

You should only move pages if the title of a page doesn't comply with the page naming conventions. For example:

  • Spelling error in the title
  • Wrong capitalization (see LabVIEW Wiki:Manual of Style)
  • Wrong article namespace
  • Unnecessary use of abbreviations
  • ...

Do not move pages to satify your own conventions. LabVIEW Wiki is a collaborative platform, so conventions should be discussed before being enforced without consent by the community.

How to move pages?

  • Go to the page you want to move.
  • Select Options > Move. A page move dialog will appear.
  • Insert the title of the new page.
  • Insert a brief explanation why the move is necessary under "Reason".
  • Press Move page to complete the process.

Note, that the old page still exists and automatically redirects to the new page. After moving a page, make sure to update any existing links in the wiki to the new page:

  • Go to the old page.
  • Under the Tools section on the left, select What links here. This will open a list of pages that include links to the current page.
  • Open each page in the list
    • Open the page editor
    • Find all links to the old page and replace them by links to the new page
    • Save your changes (make sure to include a brief summary)
  • Make sure that there are no remaining pages that link to the old page

The old page must not be deleted!
